Scheduled Journeyman & CW/CE Courses

There are a total of 8 courses required for advancement for CW/CE's, so each will be offered approximately twice per year (about 6 months apart).  NEW! See details below about the Electrical Systems Grounding course...

Courses may be taken out of sequence and ahead of schedule.  All course costs listed are for IBEW members working under the CBA.

Conduit Bending-Designed to cover bending techniques for EMT and Rigid/IMC.  Participants will use hand, mechanical (Chicago style) and hydraulic benders, as well as hand and power threading equipment.  The cost of this course is $77This course was last offered in July 2011. 

Blueprint Reading- This course covers Residential, Commercial and Industrial print sets.  The cost of the course is $86 for members and includes textbook, workbook and three print sets.  This course was last offered in August 2011.

Codeology-Teaches participants the organization behind the NEC and how to quickly locate information within the Code.  This course is great for those wishing to take a Journeyman or Master Level Exam, as well as for those just learning how to use the Code Book.  Cost of this course is $60 for those who already have a 2011 NEC, and $124 for those needing to purchase one.  This course was last offered in August 2011. 

DC Theory-Covers the concepts behind magnetism and electricity, resistance, voltage, current flow, and power in series, parallel and combination circuits.  The cost of this course is $88.  This course was last offered in June 2011.

Electrical Systems-Covers branch circuits and feeders, wiring of devices, etc.  Cost of this course is $49 for those who already have a 2011 NEC, and $113 for those needing to purchase one. This course will begin 10/19/11, and run Mon. and Wed. until 10/31/11.

Transformers-This course covers transformer theory and connection.  The cost of the course is $78 for members and includes textbook and workbook.  This course was last offered in August 2011.

Industrial Motor Controls-Teaches theory and hands on wiring of three wire controls, as well as symbols and ladder diagrams.  Covers basic lighting controls too. The cost of this course is $79This course was last offered October 2011.

Code Calculations-Covers the calculations and formulas needed to determine conductor ampacity, adjustment, correction factors, box and conduit fill, overcurrent and overload protection sizes, and much more.  An excellent course for those readying to take a Journeyman or Master Level Exam.  Course requires a 2011 NEC code book.  Cost of the course is $54 for those who already own a Code Book, and $118 for those needing to purchase one.  This course was last offered in June 2011.  This fills quickly, sign up now before all of the slots are taken.

Electrical System Grounding- Covers the NEC requirements for grounding and/or bonding of services, separately derived systems, electrode systems, enclosures, etc.  Course requires a 2011 NEC code book.  Cost of the course is $61 for those who already own a 2011 Code Book, and $125 for those needing to purchase one.  This course is worth 273 SBCs for CW/CEs who successfully complete.  This course will begin as soon as 6 participants sign up!
